As multiple sources have reported on Thursday afternoon, the San Diego Padres have traded starter Drew Pomeranz to the Boston Red Sox.

This is the third star pitcher they have dealt in 2016, joining James Shields and Fernando Rodney.

Pomeranz compiled an 8-7 record with a 2.47 ERA and career highs in innings pitched (102) and strikeouts (115).

In return for the vaunted ace, the Padres will receive 18-year-old star Red Sox pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza.

Espinoza has been compared to Red Sox legend and MLB Hall-of-Famer Pedro Martinez.

Espinoza joins several other newly acquired young pitchers, including No. 8 overall pick Cal Quantrill and Chris Paddack.
