Bruce Binkowski, the Holiday Bowl’s executive director for 14 years, and former Texas football coach Mack Brown will be inducted into the game’s Hall of Fame next month, the San Diego Bowl Game Association announced Tuesday.
Binkowski was the Holiday Bowl’s first paid employee in 1978 and became its leader in 1991. His voice is well-known to longtime San Diegans as a stadium public address announcer and radio broadcaster.
Brown led the Longhorns to five Holiday Bowl appearances between 2000 and 2011, compiling a record of 3-2. The first two — a 35-30 loss to Oregon and 47-43 victory over Washington — were perhaps the most exciting for the annual contest since the turn of the millennium.
Binkowski and Brown will be inducted at a June 16 luncheon.
