San Diego State Atheltic Director Jim Sterk will become part of the 10-person NCAA Division I March Madness Selection Committee on a five-year deal, the NCAA announced Friday.

The Selection Committee decides the 68-team March Madness field each spring, determining the seeding of each region and which bubble teams make the field, as well as which teams are left out.

Sterk will be the first SDSU AD to be a part of the Committee since Ken Karr from 1976-80.

Sterk was honored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics as one of the Under Armor AD’s of the year for 2015-16.

Sterk has been the SDSU AD since 2010, and during that time 52 different Aztec teams have made it to postseason play.

His addition to the 10-man Committee will likely give the Aztecs more of a shot to make the 68-team March Madness field, from which they were left off this past season.
