In the third matchup of 2016 between the San Diego rivals, San Diego State baseball finally recorded a win over University of San Diego with a 7-3 victory on Tuesday night.
The Aztecs (10-20) have won their last three games and four of their last five, their best five-game stretch of the 2016 season.
The Toreros (18-18), who had won their previous two games, drop to .500 after losing five of their last seven contests.
The previous two games between the teams in 2016 went the way of USD, who took the matchups by a combined score of 13-8.
Tuesday night’s SDSU win was powered by three home runs, including a three-run shot in the eighth inning from freshman third baseman Jordan Verdon, which made the score 7-2 in favor of the visitors.
This game marked the first three homer performance this year for SDSU.
The Aztecs reached double digit wins a month and a half later this year than last year, and did so with 19 more losses than the 2015 team.
