In its fourth game, and first on the road, in the 2016 season, the San Diego Padres finally notched a win – and a run – in a 13-6 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Coming into the contest, the Padres (1-3) had been outscored 25-0 in their first three games, in the process becoming the first team in MLB history to be shutout in each of the first three games of the season.

San Diego finally made it across the plate in the fourth inning on a single from center fielder John Jay, scoring left fielder Melvin Upton Jr. and inspiring a widespread exhale from players, coaches and fans.

The Padres broke open the floodgates that inning, scoring six runs to take a 6-2 lead that they would not relinquish.

Three more runs in the fifth, and two more in both the sixth and ninth innings gave Andy Green his first win as an MLB manager.

Right fielder Matt Kemp drove in four runs, three of which came on a three-run home run in the fifth.

Matching Kemp was third baseman Yangervis Solarte, who notched four rbis with two-run doubles in the fourth and ninth innings.

In the loss, Rockies shortstop Trevor Story became the first player in MLB history to hit a home run in the first four games of his career with two shots, bringing his total for 2016 to six.
