Ken Whisenhunt, the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, attended to the pro day of quarterback prospect Paxton Lynch held Wednesday afternoon, according to a report from ESPN.com.
Lynch is rated as the No. 3 QB prospect and No. 25 overall player by NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.
The University of Memphis product threw for 3778 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2015, both career highs.
The main selling point for Lynch is his accuracy and decision making, as he threw only four interceptions last season.
Lynch finished his career second all-time at Memphis in passing yards and touchdowns, with 8863 yards and 59 touchdowns, and first in QB rating and completion percentage, with a rating of 137.0 and a 62.9 completion rate.
The visit shows that the Chargers may be on the hunt for the future replacement of starting QB Phillip Rivers, who will turn 35 years old in December.
Rivers recently signed an $84 million contract extension to stay a Charger through the 2019 season, when he will be 38 years old.
In his latest mock draft, Kiper has Lynch going to the Los Angeles Rams with the 15th pick, but if he falls beyond that spot, don’t be surprised to see the Chargers trade up from the No. 35 pick to grab the accurate QB prospect.
