It was also the most lopsided Opening Day game in Major League history.
The game at Petco Park in downtown San Diego drew an announced crowd of 44,317.
“We play every single day. After this game is over, you just turn the page. It’s just one of those games where it’s going to happen. It just so happened to happen on Opening Day,” Matt Kemp, a Padres right fielder.
San Diego plays the Dodgers again Tuesday night. The game starts at 7:10 p.m.
