In a list produced by MLB Pipeline, outfielder Manuel Margot was named as the top prospect in the San Diego Padres’ farm system.
The 21-year-old Margot was acquired from the Boston Red Sox as part of the deal that sent Craig Kimbrel to Boston.
Margot, born in the Dominican Republic, split time last season in AA and A+, finishing up the year on the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League.
On the Sea Dogs, Margot hit .271 with 33 rbis and 19 stolen bases in 64 games.
Speed is the main piece of Margot’s talent, as he has stolen 81 bases since the start of 2014.
He is expected to make him major league debut by 2017.
Rounding out the rest of the top 5 are shortstop Javier Guerra, outfielder Hunter Renfroe, shortstop Ruddy Giron and shortstop Jose Rondon.
