The first annual Tony Gwynn Classic is set to take place Feb. 26 – 28 at two different stadiums in San Diego.

The event, which is honoring the Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and former San Diego State baseball head coach Tony Gwynn, will be hosted by University of San Diego and SDSU.

Gwynn played for SDSU from 1979-81, and returned to coach the Aztecs in 2002, and continued to do so until his death in 2014.

Eight teams will compete in the Classic this year, including SDSU, USD, Univeristy of California Santa Barbara and University of Kentucky, among others.

The field has also been set for the 2017 and 2018 events, which include teams such as University of Oregon, University of Arizona, University of Oklahoma and Notre Dame University.

The first rounds will be held on Friday, Feb. 26 at Tony Gwynn Stadium and Fowler Stadium, the homes of San Diego State and USD, respectively.

SDSU will play Bryant University from Rhode Island and UCSB will play Kentucky at Gwynn Stadium, while USD will be playing University of Nebraska and Arizona will face off against Tulane University at Fowler Stadium.

The championship game will be played, naturally, at Tony Gwynn Stadium on February 28.
