When San Diego State defeated Utah State 70-55 Saturday afternoon at Viejas Arena, there was a bit of school history made.

The win gave senior forward Winston Shepard and Skylar Spencer the school record for most Mountain West wins with 46, passing the record previously held by former point guard D.J. Gay.

“It’s a good feeling. It’s what I came here for,” Spencer said. “I wanted to win games and the record speaks for itself. I’ve just been handling business since I got here.”

SDSI is now 7-0 to open up conference play, which ranks as the second-best start to conference play in school history.

The team is right back at it Tuesday at 8 p.m. as they travel to play  Nevada.

“We still have a lot of work to do and we’re still trying to get better,” freshman point guard Jeremy Hemsley said. ” I feel like this is the beginning and we can’t let up right now. We have to intensify everything we’re doing and keep getting better.”
