
Thanks to a 31-14 win over Nevada and an Air Force loss to New Mexico Saturday night, the San Diego State football team will host the Mountain West Championship this Saturday at Qualcomm Stadium.
This will be the third championship game in the conference’s history and will be the first played in by SDSU and Air Force, and the first hosted by SDSU.
The Aztecs (9-3, 8-0 MW) pulled off their first undefeated conference season since 1974 when they were in the Big West. The eight-game winning streak in conference game on the heels of three straight losses to the team’s first three FBS opponents.
They will face Air Force Saturday without graduate-transfer quarterback Maxwell Smith, who suffered a knee injury in the win. Head coach Rocky Long indicated after Saturday’s game that Smith’s injury did not look good, and that redshirt-sophomore Christian Chapman would get the start in the title game and possibly the bowl game they are selected to.
Before his injury, Smith had gone 164 consecutive passes without throwing an interception, which is the longest streak in the nation.
SDSU did not play Air Force (8-4, 6-2 MW) this season, but has won three straight meetings against the Falcons.
Saturday’s game at Qualcomm Stadium will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the game start at $12 and fans can purchase a four-pack of tickets in the Plaza End Zone section for $80 that also comes with four hot dogs, four bags of chips and four sodas for
