Sweetwater Valley will face Waipio in Saturday’s championship game of the Little League West Regional tournament in San Bernardino, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series.

The all-star team from the Bonita-based league defeated the Hawaii state champions, 16-9, last Sunday, in the opening game of the tournament for both squads.

Sweetwater Valley has outscored its three opponents in the West Regional 38-12, including an 11-1 victory over Snow Canyon Thursday in the winner’s bracket final to advance to the championship game.

Waipio has won three consecutive games since its loss to Sweetwater Valley, outscoring its opponents, 41-11, including a 15-0 victory over Snow Canyon, the Utah state champion, in Friday’s elimination bracket final.

Sweetwater Valley is 15-0 in its four tournaments, including winning the Southern California championship.

Today’s game will be televised by ESPN beginning at 6 p.m. A watch party will be held at Pizzo’s Pizzeria, 2322 Proctor Valley Road in Chula Vista, with 20 percent of the proceeds donated to the Sweetwater Valley Little League.

Sweetwater Valley is seeking to be the 11th team from San Diego County to have played in the Little League World Series which is held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The most recent is the Eastlake Little League all- star team from Chula Vista in 2013.
