The torch run for the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles goes through San Diego County on Saturday.
The torch entered the county at 8 a.m. at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
According to a schedule supplied by the event’s organizers, the flame is scheduled to be at Spreckels Park in Coronado shortly after 10 a.m., at the downtown waterfront at 10:30 a.m., at the Cove Park Lawn Bowling Club in La Jolla at 1:30 p.m., and at the Oceanside Civic Center at 4:30 p.m..
Over the course of the entire run, the torch is being toted by law enforcement officers and athletes for 4,648 miles through 122 communities.
The games will start next Saturday, July 25, and continue to Aug. 2. Several cities in the San Diego region are serving as host cities for the participating athletes.
