Former San Diego State forward J.J. O’Brien will by playing with the Utah Jazz’s Summer League team which plays from July 6-9.
O’Brien, who was lauded by coach Steve Fisher one of the smartest players he has ever coached, was an all-Mountain West first team and all-defensive selection, voted on by the Mountain West coaches, and was named all-MW second team by the media.
He was also named to the Mountain West’s all-tournament team, which the Aztecs lost to Wyoming.
While starting all 36 of the team’s games, O ‘Brien averaged 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds his senior season, both second-best on the team.
Along with that, he had three double-doubles and 19 double-digit scoring efforts.
O’Brien spent his freshman year with Utah, then transferred to SDSU and began playing for the Aztecs during the 2012-13 season.
He also collected all-MW honorable mention award for his junior season, helping the Aztecs reach the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in school history.
Xavier Thames, who was that team’s leading scorer, will also be participating in the Summer League for the Brooklyn Nets.
O’Brien is also scheduled to play in the Las Vegas Summer League from July 10-20 with the Jazz as well.
