The City of San Diego is ready to take its plan for a new Chargers stadium to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York, after negotiations have stalled due to problems over an environmental impact report.

“We all agree that’s got to be our next move,” County Supervisor Ron Roberts said Thursday during an interview with The Mighty 1090. “Our side is working to get an appointment (with Goodell) and whenever I find out when that is I’ll join (Kevin Faulconer) and we’ll go back there.”

This came a day after the city and the Chargers met to discuss the environmental impact report, which was criticized heavily to the media by the team’s special counsel Mark Fabiani.

The team believes that it’s ‘not possible’ to legally place a ballot measure by December 2015 because of the environmental impact report issues.

The NFL has made it clear that they prefer its teams to stay in their home markets, so the city believes their stadium plan will be more well-received by them.

“What’s puzzling is I don’t think (the Chargers) have achieved anything if this is a prelude to negotiations,” Roberts said. “This isn’t making us want to jump up and down and open our wallets, that’s not going to happen.”

The city has yet to announce an official meeting with the NFL.
