San Diego State four-star commit Keith Smith formally announced Friday that he will re-open his recruiting process, after verbally committing to the university back in February.
Smith, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Rainier High School in Seattle, committed to SDSU on Feb. 1o, but has elected to use more time to choose where he will go to school.
“I’ve decided to reopen my recruiting process,” Smith said in a statement relayed by his mother to U-T San Diego. “As choosing a college is a major life decision, I have decided that I need to reconsider all of my options to make the best choice about where to play and pursue my degree.”
According to U-T San Diego, Smith is still considering SDSU, even though Oregon has possibly emerged as his favorite, and there is no indication that SDSU will stop pursuing him.
“There’s no dark cloud, no ill will, nothing negative, associated with this,” said his mother, Stacey McCrath-Smith to U-T San Diego. “We have great love for the city and school and coaches. We have great respect for them. It’s just about a kid trying to make the right decision.”
Smith has until November to officially sign with a school.
Along with Oregon and SDSU, Washington is also considered to be in the race.
