SDSU and USD have agreed to a one-year contract to play an outdoor game in December at Petco Park, according to a report from U-T San Diego.

The one-year deal renews the annual matchup between the teams that has been going on since 1998. The four-year contract the teams were previously under expired last season.

This is not the first time that SDSU has played outdoors in recent years.

The Aztecs played Syracuse on the USS Midway to open up the 2012-13 season, a game they lost 62-49.

The game between the crosstown rivals at Petco Park was put together by SDSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk, according to the report, and San Diego Padres Chairman Ron Fowler, a prominent USD athletics booster, would only let the game be played at Petco Park if SDSU played USD.

SDSU had previously been looking for a more high-profile program, like Syracuse back in 2012.

A reason they may have been looking for more high-profile talent is because of their recent success against USD, which could possibly leave them in a nothing-to-win situation.

The Aztecs have won nine straight meetings against the Toreros.

Last season they defeated the them 57-48 at Viejas Arena.
