University of San Diego beat BYU (15-7, 5-4) 77-74 Saturday afternoon at Jenny Craig Pavilion, which gave the Toreros their most notable win of the season, and snapped their three-game losing streak.
USD senior forward Thomas Jacobs set a career-high with 19 points, and tied his career-high with 13 rebounds.
Coach Bill Grier really liked the way his team fought against a tougher opponent, even though they have had a below-average season in conference thus far (3-6).
“Our guys have played their tails off and really competed all season,” Grier said via USDToreros.com. “We’ve scratched and fought but struggled offensively of late and dropped some close ones. BYU, with Haws and Collinsworth, is really talented. It was great to see our guys close this one out.”
Senior guard Johnny Dee continued his impressive season (17.5 points-per-game) with an 18 point effort.
A three pointer by Dee with a little over six minutes left in the game helped spark a 7-0 rally by the Toreros to help capture the victory.
USD’s will stay at home to play Santa Clara this Thursday at 7 p.m.
