The San Diego Padres were unable to reach an agreement with Korean pitcher Kwang-Hyun Kim, who they received rights to negotiate with in November after posting $2 million dollars to his Koran team, the SK Wyverns.

Padres first-year general manager A.J. Preller had until 2 p.m. PT Thursday to strike a deal with Kim and his agent, but both sides were not able to agree to terms, even though Preller had met with Kim twice this week.

A report from MLB.com said that the Padres had recently had Kim in San Diego to receive a physical, and Preller sounded optimistic about the chances of signing the Korean left-hander. However, no deal was made.

The Padres will receive their $2 million dollar posting fee back, though, because they were not able to reach a deal.

Kim is regarded as one of the top pitchers in Korea, but injuries that cost him the better part of the 2011-13 seasons diminished his value considerably.
