Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team is off to a hot start to its season at 10-1 and were rewarded Tuesday by being ranked No. 1 in the first regular-season edition of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Coaches’ Top-25 poll.

CSUSM is familiar with being ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Top-25 poll, though.

The Cougars held the top spot in the poll for seven of 13 weeks last season, and were also ranked No. 3 in this season’s preseason poll.

This year, CSUSM jumped out to a 10-0 record, including a win against No. 1 Vanguard and four other wins against Top-25 teams. The only loss of the season for the Cougars came against Azusa Pacific, who are 8-1 and compete in NCAA Division II.

Next on the slate for CSUSM is Bethesda at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at MiraCosta College.
