San Diego State men’s basketball team is facing off against cross-town rival, University of San Diego, in the team’s yearly matchup Thursday at Viejas Arena.

SDSU has won eight straight games against USD, the longest for either team in the series’ history. Another factor working against the Toreros will be at Viejas Arena, where they have lost by double-digits in their last three trips.

The Aztecs dropped their first game of the season to Arizona in the Maui Invitational Final last week, but  still sit at 5-1 and moved up two spots in the AP Top-25 poll this week.

It was an especially eventful time in Maui for SDSU coach Steve Fisher, who not only reached his 500th career win as a head coach, but also broke the SDSU record for most wins in the program’s history.

USD has not gotten off to as hot of a start and are 4-3 in the early stages of the season. Their schedule does not get any easier after SDSU either; the Toreros will head up to UCLA to face the Bruins on Sunday.

Thursday’s game can be seen on ESPNU, and can be heard on either Mighty 1090 AM (SDSU), or ESPN Radio 1700 AM (USD). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
