The UCSD athletics department enshrined seven new members into the Tritons Hall of Fame Sunday during a ceremony on campus at The Great Hall.
Members of the 2014 class include: Julia Cuder (women’s soccer, 1999-2001), Jamie Dailey (women’s water polo, 1988-92), Carol Lipson (women’s volleyball, 1984-87), Bob Natal (baseball, 1984-87),Shannon Quigley (women’s track and field/women’s volleyball, 1988-91), Chris Romey (men’s soccer, 1989-91, 93) and Paul Trainer (men’s basketball, 1971-75).
“The UCSD Athletics Department has come so far, so fast,” said UCSD Senior Associate Athletics Director Ken Grosse. “It’s an honor and a privilege to add these seven outstanding individuals to the Hall of Fame today. They have left a huge mark on the school, the department and their respective programs.”
Trainer, who played from 1971-1975, still remains the school’s career scoring and rebonding leader.
“All of my big life changes have come from my time at UCSD, both on the basketball side and personal side,” Trainer said. “It’s been great to come back and see all of the changes here, it’s been really fun.”
Cuder won three NCAA national championships in her time as a Triton and racked up 50 points while becoming a two-time first team All-American.
“This honor is more than just an individual honor,” Cuder said. “It’s a reflection on the strength of the soccer program and the talented, dedicated individuals we had. I’m so honored to be a part of it.”
2014 marked just the second inducted class into the Tritons Hall of Fame, along with the 2013 class.
