Dealing with multiple injuries at running back, the San Diego Chargers have signed veteran running back Ronnie Brown, the team announced Tuesday.
Brown played with the Chargers from 2012-13 and racked up 377 rushing yards and 431 receiving yards in his two years with San Diego. Most will remember Brown’s 58-yard rushing touchdown that helped clinch a playoff win last year in Cincinnati.
The move to sign Brown confirmed that Donald Brown, who suffered a concussion on Sunday will not play this weekend against the Raiders. With the injury to Donald Brown the Chargers are now without their top three running backs to start the season (Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown).
“Any time you can bring in a veteran player with leadership and knowledge of the game is a plus,” coach Mike McCoy said. “Ronnie is a team guy first, a great teammate and a true professional.”
Ronnie Brown will join a backfield on Sunday that includes rookie Brendan Oliver, and Stephen Draughn.
