The Chargers announced Tuesday that more than 5,000 tickets are available for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If the Chargers aren’t on track for a sellout by early Thursday afternoon, the National Football League would invoke its blackout rule — so the contest would not appear on television screens in Southern California.
The Jacksonville game is the Chargers’ second contest this year at Qualcomm Stadium and comes two weeks after a 30-21 victory over defending Super Bowl champion Seattle, played in front of a boisterous and sold-out throng.
The NFL requires all but the most expensive seats at “The Q” to be sold 72 hours before kickoff or the game won’t be aired on local television. If the Chargers are relatively close, the league will likely grant a 24-hour extension.
One Chargers home game, a 17-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in November, was blacked out last year.
Tickets may be purchased by visiting Chargers.com, calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or going the Chargers Ticket Office located at Gate C at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Chargers’ ticket office is open weekdays from 8-5 p.m., Saturday from 10-4 p.m. and Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
