With temps in the 90s, a practice at Chargers Park exclusively for season-ticket-holders was a challenge for even the diehards Wednesday. The stands were full not long after the 3 p.m. start, but half-empty by 4:30.
Players were hydrating constantly, and soaking in ice baths afterward.
Fans still warmed to the experience.
“I love that they do this,” a six-year ticketholder told Chargers.com. “It makes us feel like we’re special. To come out and watch a guy like D.J. Fluker in action, I think he’s one of the best draft choices we’ve had in a while and he’s got (Philip) Rivers’ back. So I’m very excited for the season and to be here.”
Coach Mike McCoy told the team site: “We’ve had a great turnout from Day One here, which is outstanding. It needs to continue that way the rest of camp. The players feed off it and it’s a lot nicer out here when we have a lot of fans supporting everybody, cheering for the big plays and listening to all the great music selections.”
The Chargers put attendance at 1,300 as they promoted FanFest Saturday at Quacomm Stadium.
