Padres general manager Josh Byrnes was fired Sunday, the team announced. Byrnes has been with the club since 2010 and was general manager since 2011.

“Thus far this season, the results on the field have been mixed at best and clearly have not lived up to expectations,” Padres president and CEO Mike Dee said in a statement. “After a lengthy evaluation of every facet of our baseball operations, we have decided to make this change today.”

So far this season, the Padres posted a 32-43 losing record and the team posted a 184-215 (.461) record since Byrnes was hired by the previous owner.

No word yet from the team on Byrnes’ replacement, but in the interim baseball operations vice president OmarMinaya and assistant general managers A.J. Hinch and Fred Uhlman Jr. will take over as general managers.

Minaya was previously the general manager for the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. Hinch is a former major league catcher and was general manager the Arizona Diamondbacks from May 2009 to July 2010.

Uhlman has been with the Padres for 18 seasons and was the assistant general manager for the Baltimore Orioles in 1996.

The search for a  new general manager will begin immediately, the team said.
