San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner has elbow problems and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, the team announced.
Cashner, who is 2-5 and among the National League leaders with a 2.35 ERA, was set to make his 10th start this season against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field Sunday when the team made the move. The team called the injury elbow soreness.
To take his place on the roster, reliever Kevin Quackenbush was expected to join the team before Saturday’s game.
Cashner has had a strong season. In his last start Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds he gave up one run in seven innings, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Earlier this season, the right hander almost set a Padre milestone. No Padres pitcher has thrown a no-hitter, and he only allowed one hit in an April shutout of the Detroit Tigers at Petco Park.
