Overview: Patrick Henry High School prom
“The one thing I'm most excited about regarding this year's PHHS prom is overall just seeing it come together, with the theme and all the things my fellow officers and I planned, to truly see it all come to life and just to experience prom for myself as well.”
With the school year winding down, Patrick Henry High School students will dance this Saturday night away at the school’s annual prom.
The event is set to take place on April 25 at the Westin Gaslamp from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Putting together a prom or similar type of event is no easy matter, whether you are a student or staff member involved in the planning.
“My biggest responsibility in organizing the prom is making sure everyone feels heard and solidifying the completion of all tasks,” said senior class president Kai Canizalez-Brown. “This includes finding the venue, confirming the catering services are appealing to all audiences, and lastly, ensuring that there is a significant amount of activities accessible for the seniors to enjoy at the prom.”
Canizalez-Brown also pointed out that the Associated Student Body is composed of bright minds, and his favorite part of organizing the prom is listening to the extraordinary ideas his classmates come up with.
“I have learned that team effort and collaboration are what create the best results, and our tenacity comes from the unique community that is instilled in Henry,” he said.
Canizalez-Brown said he is most excited to watch all of the hard work of the senior class come together.
“I can say sincerely that I have enjoyed working on the prom, as watching everyone work together has been inspirational and a great conclusion to the end of the year.”
Fellow student and ASB president Christina Nguyen said she most enjoys pitching in with ideas alongside her senior class officers.
“I like overseeing their roles and giving them a hand when needed,” Nguyen said. “With only a few seniors in ASB, we have the opportunity to make the prom happen and plan what the senior class would enjoy.
“I am excited to see everyone in my graduating class enjoy their last dance together. Memories with your friends are very important to me.”
Senior class vice president Danica Bui noted that her responsibilities and involvement in helping with the organization of this event are both hands-on and exciting.
“I get to be a part of the construction of menu ideas, decorations, and the whole look of the dance,” Bui said. “We, students, put hard work into dances like these to see the result, and see other students and our peers truly enjoy our hard work and feel a community within the senior class here at Henry.”
Autumn Ross, senior class staff advisor, has worked with students on the prom dating back to 2016.
“It’s always very rewarding,” she said. “Usually, there are at least a few of the officers who have been a part of the student government since ninth grade who have organized and fundraised for that class and have worked hard year after year, to think about their graduating class…. I love seeing them get to see the fruits of their efforts.”
As Bui noted, all the hard work is worth it at the end of the day.
“The one thing I’m most excited about regarding this year’s PHHS prom is overall just seeing it come together, with the theme and all the things my fellow officers and I planned, to truly see it all come to life and just to experience prom for myself as well.”
