Rep. Darrell Issa said Monday he will nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, explaining that “no one deserves it more.”

Issa, a Republican who represents east San Diego County, announced his plans in a brief tweet just before noon.

Issa did not say in his message why he was nominating Trump, but a spokesman told the TheHill.com that it was because of the President’s efforts to bring peace to the Middle East in the aftermath of the Gaza war.

On Tuesday, Issa issued a statement explaining his reasons for the nomination, and including a link to his letter of nomination.

He said Trump should receive the prize because he is the “architect and principal inspiration for the 2019 Abraham Accords — the most significant, successful, and durable Middle East peace agreements in generations — for which he has in no way received fair recognition for his efforts and accomplishments.”

Four U.S. presidents have received the Nobel Prize, including Barrack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt.
