North County residents saw extra traffic and law enforcement activity over the weekend when Vice President JD Vance visited San Diego to attend a wedding.

Secret Service agents blocked off the street in front of the Seabird Resort in Oceanside for the event.

Video of the event showed Vance and his wife, Usha, who was raised in Rancho Peñasquitos, at the gathering on Saturday afternoon.

A handful of protesters showed up across the street from the hotel. One of them held up a sign that said, “Why should MY TAXES pay for 4 U to attend your friend’s wedding!”

Vance attended the wedding on the heels of a trip to Munich, Germany, during which he expressed support for the European far right and met with Alice Weidel, the co-leader and candidate for chancellor of the far-right, anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party, his office said.

Mainstream German parties say they won’t work with the party, a stance often referred to as a “firewall.” Polls put Alternative for Germany, or AfD, in second place going into the Feb. 23 election with about 20% support.
