Pro-housing advocates announced the creation of the Congressional Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY) Caucus Thursday.

The bipartisan caucus was created by members of the House of Representatives, including two from California – Democrats Scott Peters of San Diego and Robert Garcia of Long Beach – along with five others, from Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York and North Carolina.

The group, in promoting new housing developments, hopes to achieve the goal of increasing the housing supply to help alleviate the affordable housing and homelessness crises.

“This caucus will be essential for fostering pro-housing growth policies that lower costs, help people achieve the dream of home ownership, and create vibrant, walkable and transit-connected communities,” said Peters, a founding member of the San Diego Democratic YIMBY Club in 2018.

“Embracing YIMBY-ism, building more housing units, and embracing mixed-use zoning will increase our housing supply and drive down costs for Americans,” Garcia said.
