Protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza briefly blocked Vice President Kamala Harris’ motorcade in Rancho Santa Fe on Friday afternoon, the San Diego County Sheriff‘s office reported.

Lt. Gavin Lanning said a group of about 50 protesters were gathered in the 1600 block of Circa del Norte around 3 p.m.

Harris, whose plane had landed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, was en route to a fundraiser in the gated Fairbanks Ranch community.

Lanning said one protester jumped in front of the motorcade, but deputies responded. The protester ran away, but another intervened and was arrested.

Anisa Rebecca Chaudry, 36, was arrested on a charge of obstructing a peace officer. She was cited and released.

Lanning said the protesters dispersed after 45 minutes and there were no injuries or damage to property.

Harris left Miramar for Los Angeles later in the afternoon. Earlier on Friday the Biden administration called for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying the terrorist group Hamas had been defeated.
