Former President Barack Obama said on Sunday he had tested positive for COVID-19 with his symptoms limited to a scratchy throat.

“I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise,” Obama, 60, wrote on Twitter.

“Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative.”

Obama, according to CNN, recently returned to Washington, DC, after spending time in Hawaii. He received the positive result on his return, CNN said, based on the claims of “a person close to him.”

There were about 35,000 infections on average over the past week, according to the Associated Press, down sharply from the beginning of the year when that average neared 800,000.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased guidelines for indoor masking as a measure against COVID infection last month.
