San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan announced this week she has raised $430,000 in her campaign for reelection to a second four-year term in November.
Stephan’s campaign reported 100% of donations came from individuals and over 90% from county residents.
“I’m so grateful for the outpouring of support in our fight to ensure San Diego’s public safety stays guided by the rule of law, not politics,” Stephan said, adding that the campaign “has a strong fundraising advantage” ahead of the June 7 primary.
Stephan said her office has “tripled hate-crime prosecutions” and is cracking down on retail theft and drug trafficking in the county.
She has received a number of high-profile endorsements, including from former U.S. Attorneys Bob Brewer and Carol Lam, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Crime Victims United.
So far a challenger has not emerged, though the deadline for filing is not until March 11. In 2018 she beat public defender Genevieve Jones-Wright by 63% to 37% after being appointed interim DA in 2017.
