Though he voted with other Republicans to reject some states’ electoral votes, Rep. Darrell Issa on Wednesday praised President Biden and celebrated the peaceful transition of power.

“Every Inauguration Day is a celebration of our enduring democracy — and today continues that uniquely American tradition,” said Issa. “I have known President Biden for more than 20 years, I welcome his words of unity, and the country stands to benefit if he keeps the promises he made during the campaign to bring us together. “

“Today is also a time to pray for our nation and its success. May God continue to bless America,” said Issa.

Just hours after a mob of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol, leaving five people dead, Issa and many Republicans in the House of Representatives voted to reject electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania in support of President Trump’s lie that he won the election.

Issa, who represents the 50th District in East County, promised to work with the new Biden administration in a brief statement to the media following the inauguration.

The 50th district encompasses the central and northeastern parts of San Diego County and a portion of Riverside County, including Fallbrook, San Marcos, Valley Center, Ramona, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon and Temecula.
