Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has scheduled a pro-immigration rally for next Friday, Dec. 20, in San Ysidro.
The rally location at San Yisdro High School is just a mile and a half north of the international border, which President Trump has vowed to close with hundreds of miles of new fencing.
“Trump’s racist immigration agenda is a moral stain on this nation,” said Sanders in a tweet on Friday. “We are going to create a humane policy for asylum-seekers that is grounded in human and civil rights.”
The Democratic presidential contender’s rally is set for the high school’s athletic quad at 5353 Airway Road. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m.
A poll released Thursday by CNN shows Sanders among the top three Democratic contenders in California. Former Vice President Joe Biden was preferred by 21% of respondents, followed by Sanders at 20% and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 17%.
