The Metropolitan Transit System will hold two open meetings this week to get public input on the first battery-powered bus route in the San Diego region.

The new “Rapid” route would provide fast, frequent and limited-stop service from the Otay Mesa border to Imperial Beach.

The meetings, scheduled for Wednesday in Otay Mesa and Thursday in Imperial Beach, will seek input on a new route beginning operation in 2022.

Both meetings are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The first, on Wednesday, is at the Otay Mesa-Nestor Library, 3003 Coronado Avenue, and the second, on Thursday, at the Imperial Beach Library, 810 Imperial Beach Boulevard.

Final route and station design are expected in mid-2020 with the service launching in late 2022.
