City Councilman Scott Sherman has entered the race for Mayor of San Diego, adding a well-known Republican name to what has so far been a Democratic match-up.
Sherman, who is termed out on the council, quietly pulled papers on Nov. 27 and has registered the website Sherman2020.com, though it is not yet active.
He did not make any public announcement regarding his plans for the March 3 primary.
Sherman faces Assemblymember Todd Gloria and City Councilmember Barbara Bry, who are both Democrats though the race is officially non-partisan, as well as a number of less well known candidates.
Bry and Gloria have both been in the race since the beginning of the year and already have long lists of endorsements.
