The union representing San Diego’s firefighters has endorsed Assemblyman Todd Gloria for Mayor and Aaron Brennan for City Council in District 1.

The San Diego City Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 145, issued the endorsements over the past two days, beginning with the one for Gloria, a former City Councilmember, on Wednesday.

“San Diego City Firefighters are proud to support Todd Gloria to be our next Mayor,” said Jesse Conner, president of Local 145. “From day one, Todd has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety and has consistently stood with first responders, their families, and our communities.

“With his track record and experience, we know Todd will make public safety a priority. That is why we are with him 100 percent,” Connor added.

The endorsement of Brennan, a firefighter himself, for the district representing La Jolla, University City and Carmel Valley came on Thursday.

“On the City Council, Aaron Brennan will put his firefighting experience and unwavering commitment to community to work keeping San Diego safe and getting things done for our neighborhoods,” said Conner.

Gloria is opposed by City Councilmember Barbara Bry, while Brennan faces community leader Joe LaCava. The primary election is on March 3, 2020.
