Rep. Scott Peters, a San Diego Democrat, will hold a town hall downtown on Wednesday to discuss pressing issues facing local seniors and their families.
More than 150 seniors are expected to attend the event, during which Peters will discuss issues like nutrition, affordable housing, Section 8 vouchers and potential cuts to Medicare and Social Security. The event is intended to help local seniors express their perspectives to those in power while also hearing how Peters plans to help, according to event host Serving Seniors.
Peters will also discuss his support of the Social Security 2100 Act, a bill which would, among other things, improve Social Security benefits, increase payroll taxes to 7.4% and cut taxes for the program’s beneficiaries to extend the program’s solvency without making cuts. The bill was introduced by Rep. John Larson, D-Connecticut.
The discussion is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Serving Seniors at 1525 Fourth Ave. Serving Seniors Vice President of Philanthropy Edith Glassey is expected to attend the event with Peters.
