The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and the city of Encinitas will host a community forum Monday evening to discuss a proposal to eliminate the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.

The Encinitas City Council is scheduled to discuss the ordinance next month. Monday’s forum will include presentations by city staff members on how the ordinance will benefit the city and help it achieve the goals set in its climate action plan. City officials also believe the ordinance will decrease levels of noise, dust and allergens.

A violation of the ordinance would result in a fine of at least $100 after a warning, increasing for each violation. Only electric or battery- powered leaf blowers would be allowed within the city going forward, should the ordinance be adopted.

The forum will be held at the Encinitas Community Center’s Banquet Hall, located at 1140 Oakcrest Drive. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
