The San Diego region’s newest member of Congress announced his endorsement of City Councilwoman Barbara Bry for mayor of San Diego in 2020.

Rep. Mike Levin, who succeeded Darrell Issa in the 49th District that stretches from the UC San Diego campus to south Orange County, said he was endorsing Bry because of her courage and experience in business and public leadership.

“Leadership requires making tough decisions in order to protect the public interest,” said Levin.“Barbara has demonstrated time and again, both in the private sector and as an elected official, that she has the courage and the experience to provide that kind of leadership. I support Barbara Bry for mayor of San Diego.”

“Mike Levin is a breath of fresh air in Congress who is challenging the status quo. That’s why I’m especially appreciative of his support,” said Bry. “We are both committed to putting an end to politics-as-usual and making government more accountable to the people.”

Bry faces activist lawyer Cory Briggs and Assemblyman Todd Gloria, a former city councilman and interim mayor. Gloria picked up an endorsement from Rep. Susan Davis on Thursday.
