Rep. Susan Davis from San Diego called President Trump’s actions “beyond reckless” after details of a congressional visit to Afghanistan were revealed.

Davis was part of a group let by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that was set to visit NATO headquarters in Brussels and then U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“For a president to cancel and leak the details of a Speaker’s trip to a war zone is beyond reckless. The importance of confidentiality until members and those accompanying safely returned from their mission is paramount,” said Davis, who is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee.

“Not only did he and his staff endanger the Speaker and other members on the trip, but he also endangered our troops, security personnel, and the other travelers on our flights. It’s appalling that the Commander in Chief who is supposed to protect the American people is the one putting us in danger.”

Trump revoked use of a military aircraft just hours before the delegation was set to leave Washington. He dismissed the trip as a “public relations event” amid the lengthening government shutdown and suggested the group fly commercial.

Davis represents the 53rd Congressional District, which includes central San Diego, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley and parts of El Cajon and Chula Vista. She has frequently visited U.S. troops in war zones.
