Chris Olsen, a policy analyst for the San Diego’s Independent Budget Analyst office and a lecturer at San Diego State University, announced his candidacy Wednesday for City Council District 3 in 2020.
Olsen said his top priorities if elected include working to improve public safety, delivering world-class public amenities and infrastructure, and increasing attainable housing opportunities for all San Diegans, especially for those who are experiencing homelessness.
“I’ve been a public servant my entire career, and I fell in love with this city and its potential when I started working at the IBA’s office just over five years ago. I know how to get things done at City Hall and I want to continue to do so as District 3’s next councilmember,” Olsen said.
Olsen, 38, is a Democrat from Hillcrest. He has a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
On Tuesday, former San Diego Pride Executive Director Stephen Whitburn announced his candidacy for the seat, which is currently held by Chris Ward, who is serving his second and final term.
