Rep. Darrell Issa said Saturday no one in Washington would be surprised if President Trump knew in advance about his son Donald’s meeting with a Russian lawyer offering dirt on Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“If he’s proven to have not told the whole truth about the fact that campaigns look for dirt, and if someone offers it, you listen to them, nobody’s going to be surprised,” Issa told Fox News. “There are some things in politics that you just take for granted.”

Trump has denied that he knew in advance of the meeting, which has been a focus of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign..

Issa, who represents north coastal San Diego and south Orange counties, originally backed Sen. Marco Rubio, but then joined other Republicans in supporting Trump in the 2016 election.
