Gover, a political newcomer, is challenging incumbent Republican Brian Maienschein in the district that includes Scripps Ranch, Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, Carmel Valley, Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Bernardo and Poway.
“In these times, California needs leaders like Sunday Gover who will fight to move California forward while Trump and the GOP try to take us backwards,” said Newsom, who is the acknowledged front-runner in the race for governor.
“As a small businesswoman, public school mom and former Planned Parenthood patient advocate, Sunday Gover has shown unwavering dedication and determination to our communities and our values and I’m proud to support her for Assembly,” he added.
Gover said she is “honored to receive Lt. Gov. Newsom’s endorsement” and promised to “work side by side” with him in Sacramento.
