FBI Director Christopher Wray Thursday named 19-year FBI veteran John Brown as special agent in charge of the bureau’s San Diego office.

Brown most recently served as head of counterintelligence and cyber crimes for the federal investigative agency’s Los Angeles field office.

He joined the bureau in 1999 and initially was assigned to its Chicago office, where he primarily worked on counterintelligence and from which he deployed to Iraq in 2004, according to FBI public affairs officials.

In 2010 and 2011, Brown was an active-duty member of the U.S. Army, serving in Afghanistan.

He is slated to assume his new Southern California leadership post this month.
