Rep. Susan Davis and three of her Congressional colleagues have been sued for displaying the gay pride rainbow flag outside their House office.
Chris Sevier, who describes himself as a “combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, DC lobbyist, overseas missionary, whistle blower, and recording artist” filed suit in U.S. District Court in Washington against Davis and Reps. Alan Lowenthal, Donald Beyer and Earl Blumenauer.
He wants the flags removed — or moved inside the offices — and is seeking $1 in damages and court costs.
Sevier argues that homosexuality is a religion and therefore a gay pride flag has no place in a Congressional office. His suit describes homosexuality is a “denomination within the overall church of ‘western expressive individualism postmodern moral relativism.’”
Last year, in a protest against same-sex marriage, Sevier sued for permission to marry his computer.
“As the proud representative of the heart of LGBTQ San Diego, the rainbow flag in front of my DC office is a source of pride for me and my constituents. It is a symbol of our commitment to full equality,” said Davis.
“It is especially offensive to see this type of hateful behavior right after our city celebrated pride with a record high turnout,” she added. “It’s disheartening that in this day and age this is still an issue. Be assured that hateful lawsuits are not going to stop me from celebrating our nation’s diversity.”
