A water main break outside the Westin San Diego Hotel left several downtown blocks temporarily without functional plumbing Monday.

The 12-inch-diameter concrete pipe in the 1000 block of Columbia Street ruptured about 2:15 a.m., San Diego city spokesman Arian Collins said. Crews had the overflow under control within 45 minutes, he said.

No structural flooding was reported.

The mishap left the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Columbia Street without water service pending repairs, which were expected to be complete by late afternoon, Collins said.
