Rep. Scott Peters said Monday he will attend the Presidential inauguration on Friday but then show his displeasure with Donald Trump by joining the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday.

“I greatly respect the office of the Presidency, even if I don’t respect the man who will now inhabit it. So I will join Presidents Obama and Clinton, Secretary Clinton, Senator Harris, and hundreds of my colleagues at the inauguration,” said the three-term Democrat who represents most of the city of San Diego.

“And then, the next day,” he added, “I’ll join my wife, daughter, and dozens of San Diegans and march to send a clear message to our new President about what we stand for.”

As of Monday evening, a total of 41 Democrats among both houses of Congress have announced they will boycott Trump’s inauguration.

Peters said it is important to him to “show up at work and bear witness to the peaceful transition of power, which remains the bedrock of our democracy.”
